Conservation, Preventive Maintenance and Restoration:
Conservation means to care of your assets for avoiding expensive restoration.
Conservation is a Preventive Maintenance activity.
Preventive Maintenance is focused on maintaining cultural assets in optimum conditions
of function and integrity.
Restoration is often an accelerator of degrade led by the intrusion of new materials while
preventive maintenance is the optimum solution for delaying the process of alteration.

Asset management - new thinking:
Asset management is based on systematic and coordinated procedures and practices through
which owners or operators manage their assets, considering associated financial performance,
life cycles costs and risk exposures, including a contingency plan. The objective should be to
achieve the best value compromise.
Asset Management needs an holistic view and is focussed on long-term consequences.
Standardization: CEN/TC 319/WG 10: Maintenance within Physical Asset Management.
