Asset Management
Asset Management was part of the Roman culture - but there is no word for it in the Latin language.
Nevertheless, CEN/TC 319 agreed to a liaison between ISO PC 251 (Asset Management) and CEN/TC 319 (Maintenance) for a period of three years.

Summary of the presentations (in german):

Es ist ja nur eine Reparaturschweissung: Dipl. Ing.

H.R.H. Prince Dr. Mansour Bin Mite'b Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Minister of Municipal and Rural Affairs - KSA.

Opening:

Mansour bin Mite'b bin Abdulaziz al-Saud, the Saudi deputy minister of Municipal and Rural Affairs, underlined on Monday the importance of securing proper maintenance for big projects in order to provide good standards in living for the citizens of the Arab world.

“Our Arab region is witnessing a development renaissance during which modern cities and gigantic projects have been established. These represent real wealth for our region and many efforts have been exerted to achieve such projects. It is very important to guarantee the continuity of these projects by securing their maintenance,” he said.

“The government of Saudi Arabia has given a great importance to operation and maintenance of public facilities and public services. A specific budget line has been allocated for operation and maintenance and during the last 10 years, around 20 to 30 percent of the state budget has been dedicated to this sector in addition to the contribution of the private sector in all the industrial service projects,” he said.

For his part, Assistant General Manager for Maintenance at Saudi Oger Ltd Jamal El zein emphasized on the importance of continuous training as being the main pillar in preparing the human resources in order to increase their efficiency and generate more revenues.
Zein noted that it is important to use modern ways for maintaining equipment and investments. “This will increase the level of production by commissioning all these work to the private sector.”

Zein’s remarks were echoed by the conference’s chairman Dr. Zohair ALSARRAJ who placed a great importance on training in his speech. “We should underline that successful training is a training based on practice and on the criteria adopted by international as well as regional organizations,” he said.
“Maintenance and operation is very important in our Arab world and they require partnership between the public and private sector.”

Transportation and Public Works Minister Ghazi Aridi noted that maintenance has to accompany any project since its inception and during all its implementation phases. “Maintenance goes along with public safety and this is affirmed by the accidents that we encounter on our roads for many reasons which include sometimes the lack of proper maintenance,” he said.
