VocTrainMaint Partnership Workshop in the frame of the NFV Training Days 2014
World Class Maintenance and Excellence in Maintenance are key words
and are turning around the world since years. The question in this
context is, what are the related terms of reference describing purpose,
structure, shared goals, resources, timelines, etc. ?
Education and training is a key challenge for many companies and
surrounding stakeholders. Excellent Maintenance Managers and well
performing Maintenance Personnel on all levels can accrue significant
benefits. Today we need Maintenance Personnel with outstanding
competencies including good knowledge, professional skills and human factors.
In the frame of CEN TC 319, Leonardo da Vinci and EFNMS, new structures
were and are still in development for offering modern training and qualification tools
in maintenance.
Back ground
In several countries, unemployment hits records. Youth unemployment is a huge problem
– new visions and projects are necessary for creating opportunities.
Education and Training will be the right answer – but, there are a lot of education
and training programs without any real market behind. Attractive programs must be implemented
– in line with real market needs and together with the National Educational Authorities.
One of the objectives of the VocTrainMaint Partnership Workshops is to promote and support
European-wide education, training and qualification in the field of Maintenance.
The increasing international integration in the development of Maintenance innovating
new ways plays a significant role. Several European networks as CEN TC 319 “Maintenance”,
EUROMAINT, VOCTRAINMAINT, PILE UP or EURIAC were established and are active in the European
innovation area. Others, we find in North and South America, the Arab Countries, China and Australia.
All these networks are focusing to-day on education and training in Maintenance.
Some statements from the actual Maintenance Market:
• We have to promote competence in Automation on all levels (EURIAC).
• Promotion of higher education and training for the blue-color maintenance personnel is necessary (VOCTRAINMAINT).
• There is not enough qualified Maintenance Personnel in the Chemical Process Industry (PILE UP).
• Due to the growing extend and the increasing complexity of maintenance, very diverse occupational
profiles have evolved for Maintenance Personnel. Competence, knowledge, skills and target qualification
must be in our focus (CEN TC 319 “Maintenance”).
For us, it is important to realize that we have the key in hand for building new labor markets
and for developing win-win strategies for Youngsters and the Manufacturing Industry.
For this, possible commitments from Industry, Professional Schools, Universities,
National / International Maintenance Societies and Governmental Organisations were discussed.

to this expansion. It also recommended the establishment of an Apprenticeship Council.

the Irish maintenance society MEETA. The primary purpose of these collaborations
is to develop educational programmes with reference to the European
Qualification Framework (EQF) for multi-skilled maintenance technicians in
close collaboration with industrial partners.
The purpose of this forum was to present an overview of the work being done
in Europe through the presentation of a selection of EU funded projects.
